Hey. Literally only just found out about this site and the fast 5 diet. I've been doing the warrior diet and intermittant fasting for 7 days now and i feel great. I'd been following a low carb diet before this and decided to mix the two and it feels so natural. Lost 6 pound the first week, weighed myself today.
Great to see someone doing the same diet principles.

The body runs on glucose, to reduce intake of glucose in addition to fasting would mean that the body will be lacking in gas for the system. The body can change protein into glucose but this cause the body to be acidic wich in the end will produce fat, however if your body does not produce fat due to fat is used as energy as you are fasting for a long period of time the acidity will remain and will be attacking your internal organs. I suggest you review your choice of foods and select food that the body can utilize with the least amount of energy wasted. I may be wrong of course as I'm no dietritian but this is from my research that I have been doing in the past year. Last point, as for choice of carbs, pick whole food not refined products and you should be golden.

Take care and have a wonderful day, keep the faith, stay strong and keep up the good work!

I have been on Fast 5 since March. My diet reflects a Pritikin style of eating with an emphasis on whole grains, vegetables and fruits consistent with your recommendation (Ronny Andersen's). I have also been working out on a Concept 2 rowing machine. Weight loss has been slow, but steady (I am half way to my goal of losing 80 pounds), and, so far, I see no evidence of weakness due to muscle loss. Maybe low carb works for some people, but I am skeptical about the long-term consequences. I can attest to the fact that you can succeed with a more balanced approach incorporating lots of unrefined foods full of starches (whole wheat, potatoes, squash, brown rice, beans......).

Mike,

Nice to meet you and glad you have good progress, slow and steady is by far better than fast and regaining and possibly damaging internal organs. Low carb diet could be for some people a faster way if that is the main goal, then you can also just operate it away if speed is the main focus.. The quallity of food, proteins, fat and carbs is very important, get it from good sources and I have big faith in vegetables as I'm a vegetarian and soon transition to a vegan, but it all boils down to this are you able to have a low carb diet for a pro longed period of time meaning several years without regaining weight and without damaging your internal organs then go for it, personally I like my rice and corn on the cob, my banana and my avocado.. tomatoes and cucumbers, it is simply delicious! I try and keep it organic but it is a bit expensive but I prefer that above anything else, also Raw Brown Rice.. looking into now how to grind organic wheat, using everything on the wheat grain and make bread with that add some sun flower seeds and pumpkin seeds, perhaps some whalnuts and brown syrup for the yeast add some good sea salt or mineral salt and olive oil and we should have a winner. :) Then to get a complete protein meal you add beans and grains and you have all your bases covered, so there is no problem having good protein source as a vegetarian. There is so many types of food available that it boggles the mind!

Take care friend, keep the faith and the stay strong!

your body only runs on glucose if you eat carbs

Couldn't agree more. Far more efficient to burn fat for fuel. :)

This is all completely false. Did you read the ebook at all? Lots of good information about glucose, ketone production, what our bodies use for energy in the absence of glucose, etc.

I do not agree that the body runs on glucose. It runs on fat. Fat must also be the main energy for the body. The brain does use some glucose, but not much ( only 4 gms of glucose is circulating in the body) and indeed it can make it out of proteine but this not make the body acidic. The body does not need much protein; only when your body is wasted you need to eat about 100 gms a day. You will gain some weigh because mussles are havier than fat. After that you must cut your protein down to sufficient amount.
Nitrientfat does not lead to body fat. Body fat comes from sugars (carbs). Because sugar is a poison, the body wants to get rid of it by burning is first before other nutrients. It can not do this fast enough so the body stores is, savely) as body fat. But if your are not custom to burn fat for energy, it stays on your body. So you must teach your body to burn this stored fat. You do this by not eating any sugars. How do I know that my body is burning my body fat? I am not hungry for a long time. If you eat sugars, you are hungry all the time because of partially storing the 'food' into your body as fat instead of using it for energy. Sugar needs lots of protein, vitamins and minerals to metabolise. You don't want to waste your nutrients, so don't eat sugars. Whole grains are as bad as refined.

Lost about 5 lbs ... 2 weeks today and I find it is easier low-carb (no grains, no dairy). Been fasting 19 hrs a day from day one and it is sooo easy and I feel grrreat and not hungry at all during the day!!! My goal is to torch away 10-15 lbs and be free from counting and planning meals for the rest of my life (I hope). The down side is that many think I'm going anorexic or something and that bugs me....
