I'm one of those "returning" Fast-5 adopters who had success then bailed. I came to FF last fall as almost a last resort; I've been yo-yo dieting my whole life and recently gained about 30 pounds (which I *could not* afford to do) as I started "the change" as a middle-aged woman and adjusted to some substantial marital challenges. One thing I love about FF is that it removes the emotional eating piece for me- it's pretty simple- if I'm not in the window, no, I don't eat. As I restart, I have a couple of questions that I think were answered in this forum previously but now I can't find the threads. I'm hoping folks can share thoughts on a couple of issues:
1) I work full-time and often have frequent breakfast and lunch meetings. When it is a big group it's no big deal for me not to eat (I can even fudge a bit and tell them I already ate something if it comes up), but when I am invited to a meal by an individual for work or there are very few people, not eating has been a point of strain. I've gone to trying to schedule late lunches when possible that are nearer my window (typically 3-8pm) or moving to meetings over coffee, but sometimes it's unavoidable and I find my self in a meeting where it is really weird for me not to eat anything. What I've been doing is going ahead and eating something light (also low-carb) and then resuming my normal schedule. Other suggestions?
2) Last time I did FF I took the weekends off and ate througout the days, resuming FF on Monday. Although I did lose about 12 lbs over 3 months doing this, I think that ultimately these regular off-days were my undoing with the whole program. Weekend brunch is a big deal for my family sometimes and so I'd like to participate in that. I know that for FF to stick for me as a lifestyle that I have to have some flexibility. Any advice is welcome.
Thanks in advance, and I'd especially like to hear success stories from chonic yo-yo dieters who have been liberated long term by FF. I've reached the point that I figure I'm going to have to majorly restrict my eating one way or the other- either from the crazy eating pattern you have to assume with a LapBand or Roux en Y or with FF....
Hi Mary,
I was reading you post and was smiling. You describe the problems many of us have or have had. But you also gave the answer in you last sentence.
I'm not an expert on Fast-5, just started. I've been expert on eating. So I ended up around 7 years ago being 130 kilo (European kilo's) and having diabetes (type II). Learned a lot last years, lost weight also (happily!). Fighting now to reduce my diabetes.
But most important thing is the fact that I, and I alone am resposible for my personal intake of food! Nobody will make me eat, no collegue, business associate or whatever client. I decide for myself. Lunch with you? No problem, but I only take 1 cup of tea. Lunch with a group? No problem, but I do not eat.
Many, many people are overeating themselves due to systems like this, social events, even a walk in a shopping area will make you overeat. open you eyes and see the western world prosperity make us over- and overeat!
Mary, it's time to say NO, let nobody decide for you when or what to eat.
I consider this as a crime....
Have a great day!
