When I break my fast, if I have certain foods, I feel pretty crappy. My heart pounds/races and my brain is extremely foggy for an hour-ish. Much more extreme than any post-prandial slump I've ever had.
So far I've correlated these foods, I *think*, to those which are high GI. Rice, apples, and wheat so far. If I eat only my favorite break-fast (avocado and bacon and maybe fried eggs), then wait a while, I can then eat these "trouble foods" in moderation without too much trouble.
So I have begun to theorize...is this an insulin spike? IE, the food intake spikes insulin but the food hasn't actually gotten to the blood yet, so it crashes my blood sugar? Or could it be that my stomach is just working really hard and demanding all the blood? Or do I possibly have a mineral/vitamin deficiency of some sort?
Obviously this is a case of "well, don't do that then!". ;) But I am curious whether this can tell me something about my general health.
i've had the heart pounding too - not on FF just after eating...i can't say i paid any attention to what the food in particular was...i shall next time it happens...tho it probably was a hi carb meal...
How's the fast 5 going?
I tend to break my fast with some pretty healthy foods - eg a banana and a soya yoghurt. I'm sure it says somewhere in the book that you shoulds start with "healthy" stuff - maybe similar to what you would "normally" have for breakfast.
Anyway - all the best.
yes i start off with healthy food. :) yesterday was veggie soup. i think the carbs may have been the culprit (or perhaps eating too much too quickly!! ) wheat causes all sorts of problems for lots of people. eating lo carb (and high protein tho not just veggies) has made my migraines way way less. when i fall into eating carbs i feel terrible the next day. headaches and stomache pain... of course different people tolerate different things - but i have been trying to notice these things and the last 2 times i had a small bowl of (homemade) chicken curry with brown rice i had migraine next day. when i had sandwiches and pizza, i got headaches and stomachache. :(
Hello,
I can not eat apples and if I do extreme hunger hits me and cravings start. Fruit in general does this to me but mostly with apples... Maybe try taking them out for a while?
Apples contain carbs/sugar which will turn on insulin. The insulin wants to lower your "apple raised" blood sugar but usually overshoots the mark, making your blood sugar go even lower than before you ate the apple.
Thus turning on hunger again!
Carbs are evil :-)
